Fragments - Decentralized platform for micro-task apps
1 Mission Micro-task platform. Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (Mturk) started to form the micro-task landscape in 2005, with many others following suit later on. However, focus of the micro-task services remain limited – most are focused on annotating data for AI only1 and MTurk, while having no limitations on the nature of task, requires requesters to provide the entire UI/UX (with only some collections of templates available) themselves and annotators cannot easily navigate MTurk on platforms other than desktop. In addition to this, commissions, entry fees and fees for goodquality workers, are often high on these services. Recently, new platforms open to pluggable open-source modules, aimed to tackle these issues. However, outside of making the platform itself more capable and valuable, this approach gives developers little incentive to build new modules (unless the developers themselves, are also requesters who aim to have a particular new type of task completed). Fragments aims to provide a micro-task app platform where developers are encouraged to build systems like those described above, as well as many others which we cannot imagine today. The platform handles the mundane services such as task distribution, payments, identity verification, and agreements. It provides frameworks for easy integration even to mobile platforms, while developers can focus on the core of their apps such as task completion, and earning tokens if their apps are used. Requesters can take advantage of ready-to-use micro-task apps and hence, adding human power to your algorithms becomes as easy as acquiring some cryptocurrency, adding a framework to your project and setting a few parameters. Annotators use micro-task apps they are comfortable with on devices of their choice and earn tokens for task completion. “Fragments aims to provide a micro-task app platform, where developers are encouraged to build systems which we cannot imagine today.” The first use case. To demonstrate the value of the Fragments platform, ignite more ideas and give future developers a template, the Fragments team will develop the first micro-task app on top of the platform, to facilitate data collection and annotation. On the requester side, the app will be fueled by Artificial Intelligence and other technologies that require vast amounts of structured labeled data. On the other hand, for annotators, there will be a strong push for mobile environment, so that the app can tap into the growing number of people in emerging economies, who have a smartphone and internet connection [1]. This will also deliver a comfortable experience even on the move and use the extensive data acquisition capabilities of today’s smartphones (camera, microphone and other sensors).Link project : https://fragments.network/
